This Code Alert will focus on the February 2020 FM 1-29 prescriptive enhancement requirements for insulation attachment using mechanical fasteners and ribbons of adhesive on adhered roofing systems.

This Code Alert will focus on the 2020 FM 1-29 performance-based and prescriptive enhancement requirements for membrane attachment on mechanically fastened roofing systems. This includes linear induction-welded systems.

As part of Versico Roofing Systems’ ongoing testing program for high-performance and unique roofing system assemblies, extensive Very Severe Hail (VSH) testing has been completed at FM. The main VSH hail belt (as determined by FM) is in the Midwest, but other areas of the country have shown interest in these robust assemblies.

This Code Alert summarizes changes made to the FM 1-28 Property Loss Prevention Data Sheet, dated February 2020. One key change relates to roof zone dimensions to align with the ASCE 7-16 Design Standards. In some cases (depending on the roof dimensions, building height, and slopes), four zones may exist: interior, inner perimeter, outer perimeter, and corner zones.

The assemblies are designed to offer simple, convenient, and value-based roofing solutions; allowing for quick installation with minimal disturbance or interference to the building operation. The existing substrates include asphaltic roofs, standing seam metal roofs, and single-ply membrane assemblies.
