Encouraging New Product Adoption in Your Crew

Getting members of your crew to adopt new products takes a unique understanding of not only the roofing process, but also what contractors truly want and need when it comes to getting the job done. We’ve compiled a list of some of the key things that us as the manufacturer, and you as the contractor, can do to help not only encourage manufacturers like Versico to provide the products that contractors are looking for, but also help encourage widespread adoption of these new products.

  • Create an open dialogue: Manufacturers should be asking contractors what they really need on a roof, and contractors should be forthcoming about what challenges they’re facing with current technology and products.
  • Participate in the roll out: If a manufacturer sends out an announcement that is interesting and exciting, and pairs it with a training that is engaging and effective, be sure to participate! Not only will participating in the trainings put you and your crew on the forefront of new technology, but it will also show the manufacturers that you are willing to adapt and are a good resource for future rollouts and new product discussions.
  • Know the benefits: Make sure that you are asking your Versico Independent Sales Representatives to provide you the benefits are of these new products; whether it be saving on labor, saving money, solving a problem, or just making the roof and building more functional overall.
  • Identify your crew as“early adopters”: Contractors who are always first in line to try new things or provide feedback become invaluable to rep groups and manufacturers. Help by allowing these groups to involve your crew right off the bat. Work with them to find incentives for your crew to try out these new products in the field and any ways that you can be united in encouraging new product adoption to be more widespread.
  • Share success stories: Versico is always looking for projects that would make great case studies, and these case studies not only can prove how great the new products are but can also provide free advertising for you,the contractors! Always be on the lookout for a job that can be our next best case study.
  • Provide feedback: Even after these new products have been successfully launched, there is always opportunity for improvement. Actively provide feedback to our partners in the field. You as contractors are committed to your craft, and often have constructive feedback that helps Versico maintain its status as the leader of innovation in commercial roofing.
The tools above can go a long way in helping to promote new product adoption and innovation in the field and in your crew itself. If you have any feedback about new products; or suggestions for future new product or innovations; please reach out to Jesse Sutton, Versico’s New Product Development Manager.
